A month on the Costa Brava, out of season
Why the quieter months are a good time to stay longer on the Costa Brava, with coastal walks, calm coves and towns that are still open.

The Costa Brava runs north from Blanes to the French border: pine-covered headlands, small coves and old fishing towns.
Why go out of season
In late spring and early autumn the beaches are quiet, the sea is often still warm enough for a swim, and it’s easy to find a table for lunch. It’s a calmer place to settle into a working routine than in August.
The coastal path
The Camí de Ronda, an old coastguard path, links many of the coves. A short stretch before work or at the end of the day is a good way to get to know the coast one bay at a time.
Before you book
- Check which restaurants and shops stay open outside summer.
- A car makes it much easier to explore the smaller villages.
- Ask whether the home has heating as well as air conditioning for cooler evenings.
